AI agent cockpits in 2026: is there room for another one?
Short answer
Not as a general product. Free open-source cockpits (Orca has 109K GitHub stars) cover the low end, and Coder ($90M Series C led by KKR, AWS agreement), Warp, GitHub Agent HQ and Slack Code (free on every Slack plan) cover the governed top. Shared rooms for humans and agents are only partly open, and seven tools in the space shut down, sold or pivoted in 2026.
Key facts
- verifiedOrca, a free multi-agent desktop app, had 109K GitHub stars in October 2026.
- verifiedCoder raised a $90M Series C led by KKR and signed a strategic agreement with AWS on July 23, 2026.
- estimateSlack Code launched August 20, 2026 on every Slack plan at no extra charge.
- verifiedConductor charges $50 a month for Pro and $60 per user for Teams.
- verifiedWarp Business costs $50 per user a month; Max is $200 a month.
Bottom line
The cockpit is commoditized. Running many agents with any model from a web or phone front end, with sessions that survive, is given away free by dozens of open-source projects, the biggest with 109K GitHub stars verified. The paid, governed, "runs in your own AWS" version is a race led by Coder ($90M Series C from KKR, AWS partnership) and Warp, with GitHub, Slack and AWS itself giving similar features away inside products teams already pay for verified.
Shared human-and-agent rooms are only partly open. Slack Code (free on every Slack plan since Aug 20) puts humans and several coding agents in one channel; Agent Room joins agents from different machines and vendors in one room with humans; Bloome puts Claude Code and Codex in group chats where they delegate to each other verified. What is still missing: no-account guest links limited to one room, approving agents' permission prompts from the room, and loop limits on agent-to-agent chat. Those are features, not a business.
The graveyard says the same. Vibe Kanban (28K stars) shut down for lack of a business model; Terragon, Crystal, Continue and Roo Code's extension closed, folded or were absorbed within ten months verified. For builders, a new cockpit is a hard sell; for investors, the money is in governance and infrastructure.

What is an AI agent cockpit?
A front end for running and supervising several AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and others) at once, usually with persistent sessions, a status view of which agent needs input, and phone or web access.
Which AI agent orchestration tools are free?
Orca, Happy, Paseo, Codeman, Agent Deck and Vibe Kanban are free and open source; Coder's Community edition is free for self-hosting with up to 5 agents.
Who is making money in AI agent orchestration?
Mostly governance and infrastructure companies: Coder, Warp, and the platforms that bundle agents (GitHub, Slack). Conductor is one of the few UI-first tools charging per user.
